(The Lesson Part 1, in case you missed it)
There are lots of cool things happening’ behind the scenes of musicomic.com. My friend, Phillip, is hard at work writing a series of comics that will be revealed as soon as it’s ready.
I’m currently doing a bunch of research on the merchandising side of things. I’m looking at stickers, t-shirts, posters, and prints to start and a book when I have enough strips to justify it. If you have any thoughts or advice on this topic, hit up the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!
Also, here’s a link to a visualized Pixar Theory.
Since it’s your particular domain I can see you keeping this in the Jazz/Saxophone world. Might be tough to keep it going long term though. Don’t know…”Calvin and Hobbes” went for a long time and Watterson called it quits when he felt it may no longer be fresh and original. I really admire the way that guy never sold out.
The Far Side got a bit lame when Larson started having other people help with the writing (as far as I know). Maybe you can have guest characters with other musical stuff…you know enough people that you incorporate the stories of your friends. I do love how personal it is at this point though. I’m sure if you just had input you’d continue to make it your own. Anyway, you did ask for comments. Love your work dude!
Thanks Dale! I appreciate the comment and completely agree with you!
Watterson is such a great role model for integrity. Like you said, he ended the comic when he knew he had nothing else to accomplish with his strip. He easily could have kept making money, but he ended it. Awesome.
With the name being “Musicomic” I knew from the beginning that I’d like it to cover a lot of music related ground, but always with the same tone and sense of humor. The sax/jazz humor was the most comfortable starting point. I’m currently doing a lot of reading to get myself edumacated and make more music/jazz history jokes, cause those are my favorite.
As far as writing, Phillip and I already make a great team and I’m super excited for everyone to see the comics we make together.
Thanks again for reading, sharing, and caring!
When you do tee shirts offer long sleeve tees and hooded too! I live in Maine. It’s freaking cold here. Tone Deaf Comics only offers short sleeve tees and it drives me crazy.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind!
That’s supposed to be hoodies. Stupid Samsung auto correct.
